11th Meeting of PetroCaribe Ministers

(Energy Analytics Institute, Ian Silverman, 8.Sep.2013) – Venezuela’s Energy Minister Rafael Ramirez participated in the 11th meeting of the Council of Petrocaribe Ministers in Port-au-Prince, Haiti according to an official statement from PDVSA.

Petrocaribe is an innovative geopolitical initiative based on integration and regional unity, and provides energy to nearly 83 mln people, providing the Caribbean with 40%-plus of its energy needs, Ramirez said. The initiative has provided more than 232 MMbbls of petroleum to member countries.

Under Petrocaribe, electricity generation has increased to 365 MW in Haiti, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Nicaragua, Ramirez said.

The meeting, which focused on establishment of the Petrocaribe Economic Zone, was attended by 20 delegations from 18 member countries as well as countries that could be added to the initiative: Chile, Bolivia and Argentina.
